DEADLY SECRETS By Lacey Roberts

  DEADLY SECRETS
By Lacey Roberts

Blurb: Take one hot, sexy cop add a beautiful Forensic Pathologist and you have one heck of a steamy love affair. BUT, who is threatening their lives? Whose life is really at risk? AND, why has a young man been murdered and what the hell do snakes have to do with it all?

Excerpt: Flynn pushed through the glass doors into the Forensics Centre. A young woman at the front desk glanced up. He grinned as she licked her lips and gave him the once over. He was used to this from women but still hadn't figured out why they responded this way. Without vanity he knew his looks were better than average, but nothing special. Women obviously thought different.

"Can I help you?" she purred.

"I'm looking for where Doc Reid is performing an autopsy." He flashed his credentials.

"Room two, sir."

He nodded, thanked her and strode down the corridor. He stopped at a door where a plaque proclaimed it led to 'Examination Room 2'.

Flynn entered the airlock space and donned a pair of white coveralls, mask and white
paper cap. He then stepped into the examination room. It smelled of antiseptic, unidentifiable chemicals and death. Not his favourite place to be.

Lily was bent over the corpse. She appeared deep in thought and he cleared his throat
to make his presence known. She straightened and glanced up. "Detective, come in."

He moved closer. "Anything yet?"

"I'm really baffled and wondering whether your crack about vampires is very far from the mark."

Flynn raised his eyebrows.

"The two puncture marks in the neck had some sort of fluid in them that prevented the
blood from clotting. Poison of some sort but my initial tests don't recognize it. I've sent it to the lab for urgent analysis."

"That would explain the huge amount of blood loss."

"Yes it would, especially as no major veins or arteries were severed in the area. The
other puzzle is the puncture marks on his scrotum. The surrounding tissue is blistered, badly bruised and necrotic."

Lily lifted the sac and pointed out two large puncture marks under the balls. They were
identical to the holes in his neck. The skin was swollen, wrinkled and black.

"Christ, what did that?" Flynn's balls reacted to the gruesome sight by trying to climb up inside him.

"I don't know for sure but my guess is a snake."

Flynn's puzzled look questioned her sanity.
"A snake?  We don't have snakes that leave bloody great holes like those."

"I know, which is why I'm baffled. It doesn't add up. The aligned puncture holes, the
poison which prevented the blood from clotting, and the tattoo on his chest."

"Tattoo?"

"Yes. Look closely. It's a cobra tattooed on his chest."

Flynn dropped his head to study the ink on the victim's chest. "I'll be, it is a cobra. I
assumed it was some sort of tribal thing when I first noticed it."

"You need to get close to see the snake head, but once you do it is very clear."

"Snake worship, doc?"

Lily held her hands up, palms out. "We don't have things like that here. Snake worship
only happens in Africa as far as I know, and we certainly don't have cobras."

"Give me some answers. All you've done so far is tell me what it isn't. Tell me what it is."

"I don't know. I've never seen it before. I'm going to need more time to figure this out.
I'm sorry but I have told you all I know at this point."

"Dinner?"

"Excuse me?"

"I asked if you would have dinner with me."

Lily glanced around the room as if expecting something.

"If you're too busy I understand."

"No, no. It's just I have a policy of not getting involved with colleagues."

"Jeez doc, I'm not asking you to marry me. I only want to have dinner with you."

Lily reconsidered. "Of course. Give me twenty minutes and I'll join you."

"Meet you out front?"

"Yes please."

"I have a couple of calls to make. I'll be waiting." With that, Flynn left the room.

Bio: Lacey Roberts is the pen name I chose when I began writing Erotic Romance.

I grew up in Sydney but now live in sunny Queensland where I spend my days walking my dogs, reading and writing. Married for almost 41 years, my husband and I also enjoy a great deal of travel.

My plans for the immediate future include travel to the US to meet some of my author friends.

I hope you enjoy my latest release which is set in Canberra, Australia – the Nation's Capital. This story is purely fictional but there are numerous real places and facts covered. I could not have made it as realistic without the advice of the A.C.T. Police Media Centre and the Forensic Medical Centre at Sydney University. I am grateful to both.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Seriously, someone pinch me! The first two installments in my Wolf Smitten shifter erotic romance trilogy have been really well received so far. The latest reviews on them have left me walking on clouds.
One of the highest compliments a reader/reviewer can give an author, I believe, is that they felt the need to discuss it with someone. As a reader, I've felt that same need from my favourite books. I love discussing my favourite characters, reliving the best scenes through talking about them with like-minded people. So to see that someone has had that same reaction about my own books is... it's exhilarating. I can't thank A. P. Bullard enough for her wonderful reviews! I'm so thrilled to invoke in others the wonderful feelings that I get when I read my favourite books!

review***

I started in on Phoenix Johnson’s Once Bitten, Twice Shy immediately after
finishing the first book in the series, The Wolf in the Neighborhood. The latter
was a decidedly quick read, but moved along with a fast pace with an
intensity that belies the typical tropes of the genre.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy provoked expressions of astonishment. It spawned
excitement and the need for me to have someone to discuss it with. I loved the
way everything played out, and how the strength of Krissy was expounded on
in this installment of the Wolf Smitten Series.

The tranquility of Krissy’s and Derek’s lover’s nest comes to an abrupt demise...
You can read both reviews in full on Amazon here (The Wolf In The Neighborhood) and here (Once Bitten Twice Shy), where you can also pick them both up to read for yourself, and maybe give A. P. Bullard the someone to discuss it with.

Bad Boys Next Door Box Set - Available March 16 2015

Bad Boys Next Door Box Set — Available March 16, 2015

There’s just something about a bad boy… It could be that neighbor you’ve had the hots for forever. Or maybe the guy in the cabin or office next door. It might even be a guy you meet on vacation or one you’ve known since you were a kid.

Twelve prolific authors, including New York Times Bestseller and USA Today Bestseller, Selena Kitt, and USA Today Bestseller, Jenny Trout writing as Abigail Barnette, present a sizzling collection of erotic romance sure to bring you to your knees and make you believe in love again – or, at least, lust at first sight!

Set also includes: Gwendolyn Cease, Bronwyn Green, Tilly Greene, Elise Hepner, Jessica Jarman, Sommer Marsden, Kris Norris, Paige Prince, Charlotte Stein, and Alison Tyler.

Abigail Barnette (Jenny Trout) – Bad Boy, Good Man

Newly independent real-life adult Ellie McCormack loves everything about her first apartment…except her neighbor. His bi-weekly sex fests keep her up at night in more ways than one as she wonders about the man who’s making all the noise—and what he’s doing to make his women so damn loud.

But even her wildest fantasies couldn’t conjure up a man like Antony DeLuca. When she works up the nerve to confront him, she’s expecting a player, but there’s more to Antony than his carefree sexual escapades. One hot night with him helps Ellie see through the man who drives women wild, to the good guy beneath it all. A guy that she just might be able to fall for…

Gwendolyn Cease – No Strings

All Kaitlin O’Neal wants to do is fix her sink. She’s intelligent and resourceful. Plus, she’s got her own tools. How hard could it be? Apparently, extremely hard, since her attempt left the sink in an unusable condition. When her next-door neighbor, Cameron Sinclair, offers to help her fix the mess and renovate the rest of the kitchen, she jumps at the chance. She’d be a fool not to, right? Cameron, though, is hotter than hot and makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

Cameron has wanted Kaitlin since she moved next door. So what if she’s older than him? She’s beautiful, sexy, and he wants to get to know her better. He offers her a no strings affair—one he hopes will keep her coming back to his bed. Between home improvements and steamy sex, Cameron realizes that their no strings fling will never be enough, but can he convince Kaitlin he’s worth the risk?

Bronwyn Green – Drawn That Way

Tristan Weaver, accountant for a successful video game company, is in way over her head. Honestly answering a company-wide survey and criticizing the sexist stereotypes used in the company’s games was enough to catch her boss’ attention.  But speculating on his sex life within his earshot has unexpected consequences when her hot, but nerdy, boss invites her to model for him.

Owner, artist and lead developer of Brecken Games, Rory Brecken, has a strict no fraternizing with employees rule. However, when he overhears Tristan’s conversation with her friend about his rumored kinks and begins to suspect her curiosity in the submissive side of sex, he’s more than a little tempted. When her interest is undeniably confirmed, he suggests a onetime only, colleagues with benefits hook-up.

Though neither want a relationship, once isn’t enough for either one of them. As their encounters become more intense, Rory makes a huge mistake that may cost him the woman he’s coming to love.

Tilly Greene – Her Wicked Ride

Mike Mulligan co-owns a garage and fixes cars. He rides a Harley, is covered in tattoos and has spent time in jail. Since being released he’s tried to live a clean life, but he’s a bad boy with women, very bad and terribly sexy. Bondage, domination, and so much more, are his preferences when playing with the ladies, and there have been a variety until the last one.

For the first time, he had to work for a yes. All summer, they’ve had fabulously wild no-holds-barred sex, but one morning everything changes.  With chaos in the garage, a cup of coffee in hand, and a half-naked Sherry Gonzales in his lap, his eyes are opened to wanting more than sex with her. Mike’s solution is to go on a date, their first date.

The night starts out fine. But things get wicked on the back of his bike before taking a turn, but for the good or bad?

Elise Hepner – A Marriage of Inconvenience

When Izzy Thorton's mother falls ill and is given a terminal diagnosis the last thing Izzy anticipates is a proposal from her best friend, Sebastian Leery, to fulfill her mother's dying wish. Only one snafu keeps Izzy from saying yes—she's in love with him. But before she can say much of anything to his proposal, Bash takes the reins by telling her mother the good news.

Unable to fight her undeniable attraction to her playboy best friend—Izzy goes through with the best and worst mistake of her life. No sooner are the rings exchanged when they both realize their friendship can only bridge so many gaps. Sebastian has no hope of keeping his skeletons in the closet and Izzy doesn't know how much longer she can keep her heart out of the equation.

Together they fumble through the darkness of their past to a future that might just be a little more clear--if they can fight their chemistry long enough to talk.

Jessica Jarman – London Bound

After losing her husband six years ago, Meg Stevens has focused on the day-to-day and being a mother, not sparing a thought for anything beyond—no dates, no excitement, no life other than what she already had. A six- week vacation to London, all but forced on her by her two children, changes all of that. Meg meets the man of her dreams—gorgeous, dominant, and completely on board with a short-term fling—despite the fact he’s far too young for her.

Nathan Harris is more than a bit curious about the beautiful woman renting the upstairs flat, and once he talks to her, curiosity is quickly replaced by arousal and desire. It doesn’t take long before it’s clear she longs to experience sexual submission, and Nathan finds himself desperate to be the one she submits to.

Her days spent exploring the city, her nights exploring Nathan and the pleasure submitting to him brings, Meg discovers the trip she’d taken out of obligation has turned into something she doesn’t want to walk away from. However, the life she left behind beckons, and there’s no room there for dreaming of something she can never have.

Selena Kitt – Working for the Weigands

Lloyd “Boone” Goodhart has been working for the Weigands since he was in high school, mowing their ornamental lawn, shoveling their long, winding driveway and skimming their enormous in-ground pool for extra cash, much of which he gives to his mom, a single-mother who has worked in the Wal-Mart bakery for twenty years. Boone, more apathetic cynic than true slacker, is also attending community college, bagging groceries at a local supermarket, and rebuilding his dead-beat dad’s old Harley.

His second summer after high school graduation starts out just as mundane and routine as the first, but Boone’s world turns upside down when Mrs. Weigand tells him her husband has left her, and her daughter has returned from boarding school in Europe, where Danielle “Ellie” Weigand has spent the past five years.

Before he knows which way is up, Mrs. Weigand starts requesting extra services of Boone—in more ways than one—while her daughter, Ellie, teases him mercilessly, just like she did in junior high. He soon finds himself immersed in a desperate, passionate affair, with not just one woman, but two.

Will the attention of both mother and daughter be more than he can handle, or will his growing feelings for them be more than he can bear?

Sommer Marsden – The Anniversary Party

Kylie Walker is cracking under the stress of hosting a thirtieth anniversary party for her parents and trying to keep up with her freelance writing deadlines. With a new house, a well-meaning but useless sister, and roughly forty people about to descend on her home, she doesn’t think it can get much worse. Until her mother’s friend, Mrs. Sinclair, calls to ask if they might bring one more person. Her son, Wade. The man who up and left Kylie eight years before.

Wade Sinclair has come back to town with one hope—to make things right with his high school sweetheart. Still hopelessly in love with Kylie, Wade knows he must come clean about why he left her all those years ago so he can finally set about reclaiming what he never should have let go of in the first place—her love.

Can they put their past behind them and look toward the future? Or will the anniversary party be the end of them altogether?

Kris Norris – Force of Nature

Love—an unparalleled force of nature.

Conservation Officer, Finley McKay, isn’t a stranger to criticism. Taking risks to protect delicate ecosystems doesn’t impress most people—including the doctor renting the cabin beside hers. The man’s arrogant, opinionated and far too sexy in his faded jeans and tees. She already knows he’s an ass—she just wished it mattered enough to make her keep her distance.

Dr. Coen Brady isn’t looking to fit in. Having recently retired from the military, he’s hoping to spend a few months hiding from the world in a small, out-of-the-way town in northern Washington.

But just his luck, he has the misfortune of running into his next-door neighbor. A girl who seems determined to get herself killed before his time there is up. She’s reckless, stubborn and slowly driving him insane.

When anger morphs into angry sex, Coen knows taking her to bed is a calculated risk—one he might regret when her investigation turns deadly, leaving Finley’s life hanging in the balance. Breaking a few rules to keep her in the game doesn’t seem that dangerous, until it becomes painfully obvious she won’t stop until justice is served—even if the price is her life.

Paige Prince – Lost Treasure

Danielle Almasi-Epperson's parents were killed in a tragic car accident when she was eight years old, leaving her world famous, Egyptologist grandfather to raise her in their stead. While she had the pleasure of growing up on archaeological digs, he never believed that the field was a woman's place. All she's ever dreamed of is adventure and the kind of love her parents had.

Jareth Riley was the boy in the tent next door to Danielle's at every dig she could remember while growing up. Her grandfather and his father labeled him a troublemaker from day one. So, when Danielle and Jareth fall in love and lose their virginity to each other, it takes no time at all for her grandfather to ship her off to Harvard.

Ten years later, she's working as a curator at a museum and he's a treasure hunter. When he shows up on her doorstep asking for help to find a lost artifact with supposed mystical powers, she can't help but say yes. In no time at all, they're on the run from mad men with guns and rekindling the romance that had never quite died. Will they be able to restore the lost treasure to the rightful owners, or will they destroy their chance at happiness or lose their lives in the attempt?

Charlotte Stein – Curveball

When Judy Myers is offered a relaxing vacation to get away from her latest heartbreak, she can’t say no. A cruise on her brother’s yacht sounds like heaven...until she realizes her brother’s best friend has been invited along for the ride.

Steven Stark is big, he’s loud, and he’s obviously not interested in the plump, plain little sister he used to tease unmercifully. In fact, he’s still quite happy to tease her – until she turns the tables on him. Now, Steven can’t seem to keep his thoughts, or his hands, to himself. And worse, Judy’s not sure she can resist the attraction she’s kept buried for so many years.

Being trapped on a boat isn’t the best place to be, when you’re suddenly thrown a hunky curveball.

Alison Tyler – The Spanking House

The Spanking House is a fantastical tale of a writer struggling against the beast known as "writer's block." Mia Rogers rents a cozy cottage in a small town in hopes of jumpstarting the novel she can't seem to finish. When she meets Tripp Johnson, she becomes motivated in ways she previously hadn't thought possible.

Erotic Romance StoryBundle, Feb 4-26, 2015 with Selena Kitt, Sommer Marsden, Kiki Howell, Alison Tyler, and Skye Warren

Erotic Romance StoryBundle, Feb 4-26, 2015 with Selena Kitt,
Sommer Marsden, Kiki Howell, Alison Tyler, and Skye Warren

Curator’s Message by Kiki Howell: I’m a fan of each and every author who graciously agreed to be included in this Erotic Romance StoryBundle, and so I will admit to being a bit star-struck to have my stories published beside theirs. As you will read, I met each one through a series of intertwining, very fortunate events.
I’ve had the privilege to work with New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author, Selena Kitt, since the beginning of my writing career. After first being published by her company, Excessica, I then began working for her in various aspects of the publishing industry. I consider myself very lucky to have learned so much from a writer as prolific as Selena, one of the best guilty pleasure authors out there with over a million books sold!
Through working for Selena, I had the blessing of meeting, Sommer Marsden. Over time, and little “water-cooler” chats via emails if you will, we've found ourselves alike in a multitude of ways. I now have the honor of calling her a good friend even though we've never met in person. Referred to as “unapologetic” by another author in this bundle, I couldn’t agree more with that description of her writing. Her stories are both profound and witty, sexy and fun with a myriad of characters from a to z, adventurous women to zombies, and back again.
Thanks to one of Sommer’s social media posts, I signed up to review one of Alison Tyler’s books, and I've been hooked by her writing ever since. A prolific writer of several stories and talented editor of many kinky anthologies, her works offer passion and heart along with vital doses of all things sexy. Just following her blog, appropriately titled, Trollop with a Laptop, is exquisite fun, a true indulgence.
It was also through Selena that I was recently introduced to New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author, Skye Warren. And, though I’m just getting started into her dark romantic fiction, I can’t wait to indulge in more of her stories. Her work described with such words as “perversely tender” and “haunting and beautiful” I couldn’t agree more. I’ve found her stories to be both complex and raw, emotional and enticing.
I’m pleased with the wide array of genres represented by these authors and their stories in this bundle. While all erotic romance, you will be further tempted with subgenres like: contemporary and historical, paranormal/pagan and fairy tales, bondage and femdom, to name a few. Enjoy!

Thursday Taster - Jeannie's Cowboys

Courtesy of Flickr user masterdesigner
This week, now that I'm back, I'm going to take a hot scene from my first attempt at m/f/m erotic romance, Jeannie's Cowboys. I'm about to add some more to it, and try to push it over the 10k word mark, but for now, enjoy...

Her heart soared at the admission of returned attraction. Now she had to take the next step to bring her hot dreams into reality. “Chris is a good looking guy, too, you know. I know guys don’t notice each other, but you’re both very attractive.” She fought to keep her voice steady and casual, but found herself rushing as she voiced her dreams. “In fact, I’ve had some interesting dreams of you both. At the same time.” The thought of the dreams made her warm all over, and she was sure that her panties would be soaked.

The silence from Tyler had her biting her lip with worry, concerned she had offended the man she had been enamored with for quite a few years. “At the same time, you say?” he finally asked, his voice slightly husky. “In a particular location?” They were at the door to his little apartment and the look in his eyes when she finally dared to glance up told her that he was far from offended. She shook her head, excited to think that he was interested in fulfilling the dreams that plagued her almost every night. “Well then, maybe you should come tell us both some more about these dreams and see what we can do about them.”

He opened the door and motioned for her to enter first, although he made sure she had to brush against him as she walked past. She breathed in the smell of salt and horse and a soft moan escaped her lips. It was a smell that she had always loved, the musky tang wreaking havoc on her sense of self control. Jeannie couldn’t hear the shower running but movement in the bedroom made her realize that Chris would be getting dressed.

A sudden urge grabbed hold of her, and with a wicked glance back at Tyler, she strode into the bedroom, not bothering to knock. Chris, only wearing a towel, turned around to face her, surprised but excited by the intrusion. He held the towel closed, which disappointed her, but the rash urge that had taken hold of her moments earlier had yet to relinquish its control. Jeannie quickly closed the distance between them and she could see the growing attraction in his eyes. She grabbed the back of his neck, pulling him down to her level, and boldly kissed him. He barely hesitated and his kiss back was deep, hot and passionate.

Taboo or Not Taboo? That is the question.

This is quite a long post, I will say now. However it is something rather important that needs to be said.

Regardless of what people think of it, “Fifty Shades of Grey” (FSOG) has done a wonderful thing for bringing erotica, erotic romance and BDSM out into the open and the mainstream. The erotic “Twilight” fan-fiction exploded in popularity, and got everyone talking; not all of it good. Most of the controversy was about how it seemed to worship an abusive male partner, and the severe misrepresentation the BDSM lifestyle. I still see memes and articles from friends who actually know what BDSM entails, and they remain outraged. With the movie soon to be released, that outrage isn’t likely to fade.

However it has seen society begin to accept erotica and an openness about sex. Women brag about reading it; people openly buy it from large displays in shopping centres, and gift it to their loved ones; I’m fairly certain it has come up in numerous book clubs, and there is an endless stream of FSOG fan pages, forums, groups and fan fiction. It has made erotica an exciting new trend. According to an article from “The Guardian” in May last year, FSOG boosted book sales overall, and actually got people reading anything and everything, erotica included. It seems the books awoke an insatiable hunger previously left severely unattended, thanks to society’s view that, according to an article in The New York Times, women shouldn’t enjoy porn. FSOG allowed women to openly read and discuss sex.

I know of many authors who write erotica whose sales benefited greatly from the booming popularity that is “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Whether they like it or not, the book was a heaven send. But most of them have been writing erotica and erotic romance for years. Not me.

I never intended to write erotica or erotic romance. Although I’ve always loved being a reader, and I didn’t mind writing, the erotic genre wasn’t really one I’d ever considered. It wasn’t a topic anyone encouraged, and in fact was one that, as a teen, I was made to feel ashamed to be curious about. There was no way I was willing to broach the subject with my parents out of sheer embarrassment; and with school friends who were sexually active, I didn’t want to call attention to the fact that I wasn’t active yet. So, instead, I would avoid the genre altogether until I was eighteen. Yet even then, I kept the fact that I was reading it to myself, as though it was still something to be ashamed of.

Almost ten years later, I not only have a new circle of friends with whom I proudly discuss elements of erotic writing, but I’ve published two erotic titles with numerous others to follow, all ranging in focus on erotic elements. And yet it still feels stigmatized. I write under a pen name and I avoid talking with the other parents at my daughter’s school in case the topic of what I write comes up. Why? Why should I care if they know what I write?

Because writing about sex still has a stigma. It is still considered taboo, and those who write about it are still looked upon as perverted deviants. Fellow authors of erotica have met negative reactions, often to the extreme, from friends and family upon revealing what they write. From husbands and children reacting with disgusted shock, downright wondering what happened to the person they thought they knew, to in-laws attempting to turn other family members against the author, it is understandable when some authors keep their writing lives a complete secret, let alone the subject they
write about.

My own mother supports my writing, but will skip over those scenes altogether. My sisters and aunts are completely supportive, even encouraging, as they know that, despite the stigma, erotic reading is currently very popular, and although I found that an awkward conversation to start off with, I love the support I have from my middle-aged aunts. I’m unsure about what the rest of my family, however. It’s still not a topic I’ll broach with my father, and my grandmother was telling people I write children stories. Ummmm, Nanna? No, please don’t tell people that! That had my cousin just about wetting himself with laughter, at least.
So while I’m lucky, for the most part, in having a supportive, or blissfully oblivious family, I still have to fight back a cringe when I talk to people about what I write. I know that there are people who will judge. Those with whom I’ve discussed my “writing for adults”, as I so diplomatically refer to it, have reacted with interest; sometimes forced out of politeness, sometimes genuine intrigue. Yet I wait for the other shoe to drop; surely not everyone I mention it to will be so positive, right? It sounds silly, but I am waiting for the day my confession is met with outright disgust. It’s bound to happen.

That thought fills me with a mix of fear and nonchalance. The dominant feeling changes
from moment to moment, and depends on how confident I’m feeling at the time. I know I’m a writer, though, and my characters tell me how much detail they want splashed on the pages. It isn’t my fault that sometimes they’re bold and comfortable with their sexuality; that’s not a quality I possess. I personally think that sexual relations belong between a couple, but I also believe that the story isn’t mine to tell, it isn’t mine to censor. So I’ll happily write the words, whether they’re words of horror, terror, erotic or humorous. I’m certainly not going to judge what my characters want to tell me. But I’m left wondering, why is it that, even with the obsession that is FSOG, authors who write about sex are still often reluctant to admit what they write? Those who write horror or about torture, rape, or serial murder in graphic details are bold. Stephen King has made his living off the macabre. The Saw movie franchise, with its grotesque torture
techniques that showed, on-screen, a man cutting his own foot off, were met by an almost audibly salivating audience. Zombies are all the rage at the moment as well. Society is obsessed with macabre gore, blood and guts, people being ripped to pieces in front of them on screen and in print. We have no concern whatsoever about characters dying often slow, painful deaths. But two people being intimate? Forget it, the kids can’t see that, people can’t talk about it. No no no. Unless it’s FSOG, that’s ok. That’s not sex, that’s art.

It makes me wonder if it is maybe the relationship between the characters; Anastasia isn’t the strong, willful character myself and other erotica authors write about. Could that be why FSOG is so popular, while the rest of us authors are made to feel ashamed of what we write? Could it really be as simple as society still not being ready for strong, intelligent women to boldly lay claim to their own lives and their sexuality? Will this ever change? I know that there are many of us who are trying, and we’ll keep trying until that day comes. Until then, do we remain quiet about what we write? No, I say we shout it to the world, and break this taboo surrounding erotica.

Special Promo Wednesday with Erzabet Bishop

On this sunny Wednesday, I bring you the lovely Erzabet Bishop talking about her Erotic Pagan Series. Erotica, paganism and more than one book? What's not to love? Not to mention it's published by Naughty Nights Press!

The Erotic Pagans Series: Samhain Shadows
If you were lost and lonely, where would you look for love and belonging?
Samhain has come too soon for Brigit. Her mother has recently passed and she is feeling lost and isolated in her new role as the owner of Morrigan’s Promise. She is not the witch her mother was no matter what she sets out to do. To top it off, her mother’s cat is ill, and she hasn’t heard from the dreamy Dr. Oliver all day.

Taking a much needed rest, she finds herself awakened by a murder of crows and a vision that will leave Brigit’s world upended.
Will a blessing from The Morrigan help Brigit find her own power?
Does a visit from the sexy Dr. Julia Oliver hold the belonging she seeks?
**Based on real Pagan traditions and celebrations, “The Erotic Pagans Series” brings erotica and romance to reality, and shares the passion of erotic romance in the lives of Pagans with everyone.**

Excerpt:

“Are you ready for tonight?” Jasmin tucked an errant raven curl around her ear and tidied the shelf next to the register. It was full of seasonal frivolity, pumpkin candles and stuffed witches riding on broomsticks.

Nodding absently, Brigit laid out the dried oregano from the garden. “Are you going to be here for the cooking class next Wednesday?” She minced it into small pieces and scooped them into a large glass jar, sealing the lid with a twist. She moved on to the rosemary. One of the things the shop was best known for was the home grown herbs.

“Yes. Have you decided what we will be making?” Jasmin restocked bags and watched as one of their regulars, Ms. Busby fussed around the Halloween display and selected a bag of gummy bats. “For my granddaughter Elise.” She laid the candy on counter and smiled at Brigit. “You look so very like your mother. I am sorry she won’t be with us this year. I remember how much she loved Halloween.”

Brigit looked up from her herbal preparations and fought not to give into melancholy. Coaxing her lips into what she hoped resembled a smile, she willed herself to relax. The woman really was a dear. “Thanks for stopping in Ms. Busby. Give my best to your sister.” She brushed her hands on her well worn jeans and pulled down the tight fitting purple tee with “Boo” written in sparkling silver letters across her chest. It was one of the last gifts her mom had given her and it felt good to wear it.

“I will. Happy Halloween!” The older woman smiled and gathered her purchases, her plump body moving toward the door like a small force of nature.

“Thanks Ms. Busby. You have a great Halloween too.” Jasmin chuckled. The woman was no more a witch than her Uncle Francis. Ms. Busby waved goodbye, clutching her candy and a stuffed cat with a pointy hat.

“Thank you dears! Goodnight!” She hurried from the shop and Jasmin and Brigit smiled. Her joy in the holiday catching.

“So, have you decided about whether you’re staying home or not?”

“I think so.” Brigit smiled. “Molly should have everything she needs for the ritual.” She tightened the lid back on the jar of rosemary and placed it back on the shelf.

“So you aren’t going?” Jasmin from behind the counter and turned the closed sign on the door. “Everyone will wonder where you are, you know.”

Brigit sighed. “I know. I just don’t feel very celebratory, Samhain or not. Bathsheba hasn’t been doing well and I have been waiting to hear from Dr. Oliver.”

“But it’s the New Year. You need to stop being so isolated.” Jasmin bit her lip and gave her a light touch on the arm. “I’m worried about you, honey.”

“I know.” Brigit shrugged, tears threatening to fall. “I just need a little more time to deal with her passing, Jas. Bathsheba is lonely for her too. She’s an old cat and I’m worried.” She looked at the phone and bit her lip.

“I wondered where that furry menace had gotten herself off to. Are you sure that’s the only reason you’re waiting to hear from the good doctor?” Jasmin wiggled her eyebrows and grinned, trying to lighten up the mood.

Brigit felt a blush creeping up her neck. “I…um.”

“Ha! I knew it. You and that gorgeous vet were throwing enough sparks to set a bale fire burning.” Jasmin’s smile curved upward in approval.

“She’s probably seeing someone.” Brigit moved back to neaten up the herb table.

“Do you at least have your poppet?” Jasmin picked up her sweater and purse and walked toward the door.

“Yes.” A small white lie. It was still on her worktable in the back of the shop, half made. The poppet was to represent all of the negative habits in her life that she wanted to burn away in the Samhain bale fire. She had made one every year since she had been a girl. It was something she and her mother usually took great pains to work on together. This year she had cut out the dolly and as soon as she began to stuff it with intentions, the void of her mother’s passing became too great.

Jasmin raised an eyebrow. “You really are such a liar. We’ll miss you tonight. If you change your mind, I’ll save you a place.” When Brigit shook her head she nodded. “Okay, if you need me, call. Blessed Samhain, Brigit. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” Taking her leave, Jasmin left, shaking her head and shutting the door behind her.

Some interesting tidbits:

Coffee or tea?
Both. Just depends on the time of day.

Heels or flats?
Flats or bare feet usually. I work as a bookstore manager and I walk a lot, so flats are much more practical.

Favorite ice cream?
Salted caramel

Favorite coffee drink?
Salted caramel mocha. You can probably sense a theme here.

What inspired Samhain Shadows?
I wanted to write a Samhain/Halloween story that captured the Pagan path and really showed the traditions used in some Pagan communities across the globe. Poppets, Books of Shadows, feathers...all of these things have meaning. The book also looks at death as a beginning and has some fun kitchen kink to inspire the more adventurous of us.

Erotic Pagan?
This series came about with a short story that became Beltane Fires, the first book in the series. Naughty Nights was impressed with the tale and a series spin off ensued. Pretty cool, huh? The idea behind the books was to highlight Pagan traditions with an erotica slant to show people how beautiful many of the traditions are if they keep an open mind. I have made the series all inclusive. There are f/f (Samhain Shadows) and m/f (Beltane Fires) so far and there are plans for more stories. I am writing Yuletide Temptation (m/f) right now, in fact and it will be out for Yule/Christmas in 2013.

If you could have one witchy superpower, what would it be?
Right now, I would love to be able to hold out my finger and zot all the housework.

How much time during the week do you spend writing?
As much as possible. On my two days off, I am pretty much planted on the two computers I work from. I write under two names and that keeps me super busy. I also write before and after my shifts at the store. My hours vary from day to day, so I adjust accordingly.

Where do you write?
At my desk in the bedroom.

Name three things on your writing desk at any one time.
Just three? *snicker*
*My stash of goodies.
*My Pop Glinda and Wicked Witch of the West figures
*Water. Lots and lots of water.
That doesn't count the absolute mountain of books, sewing things and yarn that make up most of it. lol. Oh, and my two computers. lol.

BLURB

Passionate, hard working and every inch a business woman, Chicago realtor Kitty Paige likes her sex raw and edgy, and sees no reason to limit herself to just one man. Never married and not quite forty, the striking blonde has successfully raised her daughter, Susan, and is already pushing her new-found freedom to the limits.

Wealthy commodities middle-man and race horse owner Jared Jacobs is father of the best man at Susan’s wedding. He is smitten by the vision in yellow who exudes sex as she escorts her  daughter down the aisle. Also single, the handsome mustached California ranch owner with  mischievous eyes views his sex life as a series of splendid love affairs, and sets out to make Kitty  next on the list.

Together and apart, their chemistry is explosive, and their sparkling repartee and steamy sex  catch both partners by surprise. Jared is first to recognize he’s fallen in love. When Kitty panics,  can Jared finesse his every move and reel her in?

SETTING AN EROTIC ROMANCE

Have you ever thought about how the geographical setting influences the story in erotic  romance? This is certainly true in our new indie release, The Best Man, available now at Amazon.com. I thought it might be fun to share some of the story behind the setting.

Hubs and I, who co-author Erotic Romance for Two, Three or More under our pen name, Adriana Kraft, are longtime horse racing fans and have owned race horses in the past. Ours  were what you’d call low-end horses, who ran at minor tracks and might have competed in a  stakes race or two, but never anything near Triple Crown quality, several echelons above us. Those high levels are for the very wealthy – most often, people who’ve earned their wealth through something other than horse racing, and own horses for the sheer joy of it.

Enter our hero, Jared Jacobs. We placed him outside San Diego, California, for a reason. We’ve spent two weeks in a Ramona-area time share a couple different winters. One of those years, we took the beautiful drive east, up into the foothills, and sampled the historical community of Julian. There is a very famous and large horse ranch tucked away just off the highway that leads to Julian.

We filed that memory away (and wished we could have toured the farm), and when we needed just the right hero for Kitty Paige, it suddenly was the solution. We’ve given it to Jared, who earns his wealth in commodities, but loves his horses. Our choice of setting drove his avocation – which, it turns out, provides the perfect cover for him to re-connect with Kitty, after their disastrous first encounter.

Chicago for Kitty’s home? Less of a stretch, and probably more predictable. It’s where hubs and  I met, married, and spent the first several years of our married life. We know and love Chicago  from the inside, visit there when we can, and often set stories there or close by.

Kitty’s definitely a kick-ass heroine, so she needed an occupation that would go with her  personality, one where her talents, her looks and her hard-nosed determination would shine. The solution? She’s both a high-end real estate agent and a contractor who builds and restores high-end homes. As with horse racing, these are occupations we’ve been close to, at a much lower end than Kitty’s, of course. A while back we briefly joined forces with our son, a general contractor, in an investment business to buy, rehab and sell houses. Our venture didn’t last long—there were too many sharks swimming in the water, and we weren’t willing to play by shark rules. Writing erotic romance is phenomenally more satisfying and less of a challenge to our moral principles. But we learned enough to be able to anchor Kitty’s occupation in reality—and, it turns out, she’s not afraid to be a shark, when she needs to.

EXCERPT

Here’s a little taste of Kitty and Jared’s first encounter:

“May I have this dance, Ms. Paige?”
Trying to look appropriately surprised, Kitty peered into dark brown eyes that sparkled. He
clearly knew she wasn’t surprised.
“Of course,” she said, rising to her feet.
She let him guide her to the small dance floor. She moved into his arms, trying not to react
to his warm smile. He was accustomed to holding a woman. He held her close comfortably,
resting a hand on the rise of her rump. “I’m afraid you have me at a disadvantage,” she said, eyeing him levelly. “You know my name, but I don’t know yours.”
“Jared Jacobs.”
“Friend of the groom, or the bride? I’m afraid since Susan moved out here, I don’t know most of her friends.”
“I’ve been a friend of Brad’s family for years. I’ve met Susan several times. You’ve done a
fine job raising your daughter, Ms. Paige.”
“Thank you. Do call me Kitty. Ms. Paige makes me sound too motherly. So do you live in Seattle?”
“Nope. I’m a fan of the sun. I work out of San Diego.”
“That should be sunny enough. You say work out of. Don’t you live there, too?”
“You’re not only a beautiful woman and a lovely dancer, you’re a good listener.”
The music stopped for more toasts by the best man.
“And you’re a bullshit artist.” She laughed at his scowl. “I’m not easily charmed—unless I
want to be. So you haven’t answered my question.”
“I’m a businessman. I have several interests,” Jared said, handing her a glass of champagne. “I’m a middle man for various overseas companies seeking buyers in this country—copper, steel, aluminum. Most anything, really.”
“So you travel a lot.”
“Maybe that’s why it feels like I work out of San Diego rather than live there. I understand
you’re a successful business woman yourself.”
She shrugged her shoulders. “That’s a matter of opinion. There’s always room for
improvement.”
“I also travel some to follow my horses.”
“Horses?”
“Race horses. Do you ever get out to Arlington Park?”
“Of course. It’s such a beautiful place.” She’d heard the catch in his voice when he mentioned the horses. She understood the awe those majestic animals could inspire. “I’ve been to the Derby a couple times.”
“Ah, so you have more than passing interests in the addictive beasts.” He gave her a broad smile, took her hand and guided her back to the dance floor.
“Doesn’t every girl dream about horses?”
“Most girls give up their childhood fantasies as reality smacks them in the faces.” He leaned
away from her as they swayed to the music. “Somehow, I don’t think you do.”
She grinned. “Maybe I should’ve, but I’m too stubborn for my own good. Someday I’m going to own a racehorse. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.”
“Maybe you haven’t found the right partner?”
She saw his eyes teasing before she rested her head on his shoulder. “Maybe I’ve been too
busy to look.” She’d add racehorses to her to do list as soon as she got back to Chicago. She had plenty of contacts. She might not have given up on her childhood fantasy, but she’d nearly forgotten it. She smiled into Jared’s suit coat. Maybe her daughter’s wedding would rekindle a dream.

CONTEST: The Silk Scarf Contest
We don't want to give away any secrets, but the yellow scarf that's just dropped to the floor between Jared and Kitty on their cover has some very special scenes of its own in the book -  and you have a chance to win it (U.S. delivery only)!
