Interview with Kim Faulks, author of Reclaimed.

So this week I'm talking to Kim Faulks, author of the steamy Fire and Ice series. I have recently reviewed the first in the series, Reclaimed, and will soon review the second, Seductive Sands.
Welcome, Kim!
What inspired Reclaimed?
Well, I had been wanting to write about a woman that was kick-arse tough and still very vulnerable inside for a while. I drew a lot of myself out to use for Natalie and all of the hand-to-hand techniques are something I was taught in the NSW Police Academy, giving her a more realistic feel as a character.
Do you have a process to get into the writing zone?
Music loud, chocolate and either red wine or lemonade and vodka.
I know you have a second book in the series; Seductive Sands, which I’m reviewing next. How many books do you have planned?
I have five planned in The Fire and Ice Series and that should tie it off nicely.

I greatly anticipate the rest of them!
What else do Natalie and Alexander have in store for them?
Well, without giving too much away, you can expect Natalie to fight a few demons, some from her own past and others from Alexander’s past. Alexander is standing at the sidelines, furiously pacing backwards and forwards while Natalie tries to figure out her wants and needs.
Why paranormal? What is it that draws you to write in this particular genre?
I have always been drawn to the unexplained, being bought up on a staple diet of Stephen King and Dean Koontz. The day I watched Bram Stokers Dracula was the turning point for me, the untamed and unexpected excites me and this why I love this genre. I have always written the darker, edgier aspect of paranormal and not so much the young adult versions.
How long have you been writing?
I wrote when I was younger but I was bloody awful so I gave it a miss, then took it back up a couple of years ago. My husband told me about a writers club in the area, so I joined and haven’t stopped since.
Do you have an author who inspires you?

Sure do, my favorites are: Jeanine Frost, Kristin Cashore, Charlaine Harris, Laurel K Hamilton, Stephen King, Dean Koontz and many more that I can’t think of right now.
So you love writing paranormal, but is it also you favorite to read?

Absolutely. There is nothing I love more than a good paranormal read with lots of twists and a good plot and sexy characters certainly helps.
What else do you love besides writing? How do you pass your time?
Well I work full-time in the Security Industry and a mother and a wife leaves keeps me busy but I have to write every day and will usually get up at awful hours of the morning and stay up until I’m exhausted to write. There is nothing else I love doing more. I write every second I get an when I’m not writing, I’m thinking about writing.

A very busy life indeed.
Thank you, Kim, for your time. It's been a wonderful interview.

  1. Hi Kim and Casey! Great interview. Guess what? Stephen King will be attending The Savannah Book Festival Feb 2012. We have our tickets - so exciting! Always nice to read about an author who has support from their better half. Kudos to your husband for mentioning the writing club.
I'd love to win a copy of Reclaimed! ~Brenda

  2. Hey, awesome interview with Kim Faulks. She is very interesting, first of all, and I didn't know she was a Bram Stoker fan there. Great work Casey!
